Established September 19th, 2011, the Detroit Unity Fund is a federal recognized 501(c)(4) organization
with the quest to help people attain a greater quality of life. Over the past 6 years, Detroit Unity has
focused its energy around voter mobilization efforts within Michigan’s urban cores. We have noticed an
alarming tendency, Voter Apathy within the African American Community. The question is often asked,
what’s in it for me to vote?

Your Vote Matters: Black Votes Count. Plus, since the masses don’t vote, that makes those that do
very attractive. Election Day is the one day within the United States that everyone is truly Equal! Think
about it, if you’re over 18, every vote counts as 1.
Why do you think candidates & special interest groups spend billions each time there is an election?
Detroit, Pontiac, Flint, and Saginaw, the famed I75 corridor in Michigan; each have an African American
majority population, but each city had less than 35% of its registered voters participate in the 2022
Midterm Election.
The Detroit Unity Fund is creating a movement to promote the importance of voting in the African
American community. This endeavor is titled AFRICAN AMERICANS ENGAGED. This operation will
organize & participate in:
• Voter Registration Drives
• Voter Engagement Functions
• Voter Education Sessions/Classes
• Voter Mobilization Efforts
• Voter Energy/Energizing People to Vote
Mission Statement:

• AFRICAN AMERICANS ENGAGED is on a mission to aggressively concentrate on giving Black
Americans a foundational base that will help electrify them to vote. Michigan, our home state, has
10,077,331 people living within its boundaries. 14.2%, (1,410,826) are African American. Elections have
consequences, and they are not always positive. Creating a positive narrative starts with voting.
